Does BackPack store my diary on your servers?
No. Diary, tasks, schedule, and calendar are stored on the device. AI messages go to our safety-focused backend only to generate a reply and enforce safety rules.
Is there therapy or crisis counseling?
No. BackPack isn’t therapy and cannot handle emergencies. If someone is in danger, contact local emergency services immediately.
How are alerts decided?
Entries are checked for high-risk phrases/patterns (e.g., self-harm, credible threats, exploitation). Only critical cases trigger an email to the linked parent/guardian. No routine snooping.
Do you sell data or show ads?
No. We don’t sell personal data and we don’t show third-party ads or use third-party marketing trackers.
Is my data encrypted?
Yes. All data sent between the app and our servers uses HTTPS/TLS. Local data remains on your device until you delete it.
What device permissions do you use?
Camera/Photos (optional) for homework image uploads (OCR). Notifications for schedule reminders you create. No marketing push notifications.
Do you process photos I upload?
Yes, for the homework help feature. Photos you choose to upload are sent to our backend to extract text and generate an explanation, then returned to you and checked for safety signals.
How do I request data deletion?
Use the form here: Account deletion. We verify the request and remove server-side data. Local data stays on your device until you remove it.
What’s the deletion timeline?
We acknowledge within 2 business days and complete deletion within 7–14 days (always within 30 days). Backups may retain deleted items up to 30 days before purge.
How do payments work?
Optional features are purchased by a parent/guardian outside the app via PayPal. There are no in-app purchases. See Billing & Refunds for renewals, cancellations, and refunds.
Under 13 — what does parental oversight mean?
Parents/guardians manage purchases and can request account/data deletion or export. By default they cannot see the child’s diary, tasks, schedule, or chats—only critical alerts are emailed if a serious risk is detected.
Can I switch devices?
Yes. Content is local by design. Before switching, export what you need from the in-app Profile page, then import or keep a copy as needed.
