Why BackPack exists
Teens often hide what hurts them — bullying, stress, self-harm, grooming — because they’re scared or ashamed to talk. BackPack gives them a private space to offload those thoughts safely, while Zero quietly scans for real danger and alerts you early.
What BackPack does
- Study & Unload AI Chat: one mode for schoolwork, another for private venting.
- Diary & Tasks: personal planner and thought journal stored only on the device.
- Schedule & Reminders: full calendar with automatic 24h and 1h alerts.
- Homework Photo Help: upload a picture, get instant AI explanation.
- Zero: monitors only for critical red flags — not normal messages or thoughts.
What you can and cannot see
- Parents cannot view daily activity, chats, or diaries. That privacy is intentional.
- When a high-risk phrase is detected — like self-harm or exploitation — a private alert is emailed to the linked parent.
- No routine monitoring. No full transcripts. Only alerts that matter.
How alerts work
- Zero scans diary, tasks, chat, and photo text in real time.
- Each red flag is ranked by severity. Only Tier-1 risks trigger an alert.
- Alerts include the critical phrase, time, and safety category — nothing else.
Important: BackPack cannot call emergency services.
If you believe your child is in danger, act immediately or call your local emergency line.
Linking your account
- Your teen adds your email under Profile → Parent/Guardian in the app.
- You then activate Parent Alerts via PayPal on this website — not inside the app.
- Once active, Zero automatically sends you alerts tied to that account.
Privacy by design
- No ads. No third-party analytics. No student profiling.
- All diary, tasks, and schedule data remain stored locally on the student’s device.
- All transfers use HTTPS/TLS encryption and minimal metadata.
- Account and alert data can be deleted at any time: Delete Account.
Device permissions
- Camera / Photos: optional, used only for homework photo uploads (OCR).
- Notifications: only for user-created reminders — never marketing.
Payments
- Only parents/guardians can purchase alert access via PayPal on this site.
- No student device can make payments.

Healthy use tips
- Explain to your teen that BackPack is their safe space — not surveillance.
- Let them know alerts exist to protect, not punish.
- Encourage daily journaling and “Unload” chats when life feels heavy.
